Laurent Ballesta – Seas and Mysteries Exhibition

The exhibition Laurent Ballesta - Seas and Mysteries is being held at the Charles Nègre Photography Museum in Nice from April 5 to September 28, 2025.

Laurent Ballesta - Seas and Mysteries Exhibition

The sea is still an unsuspected world. The many existing photos and films are not enough to enable us to discover it in its entirety. The originality of this exhibition, Laurent Ballesta - Seas and Mysteries, lies in the fact that it allows us to discover even more. Laurent Ballesta, diver, is also a scientific artist.

It is with this perspective that he photographs the seabed, allowing us to admire the astonishing architecture of the mason worm or the amazing face of the ocean sunfish. And what about this group of sharks intertwined with each other, ice floes seen from below, trails of bubbles left by penguins, etc. It is a whole (re)discovery of our natural environment that never ceases to amaze us, thanks to the vision of the photographer and the great talent of the artist, Laurent Ballesta.

Planète Méditerranée

exposition Laurent Ballesta - Mers et mystères à NicePlanète Méditerranée takes us on a journey to discover the sea, from Marseille to Monaco, at a depth of over 100 meters.
The film is shown daily at 10:30 a.m., 12:10 p.m., 1:50 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Duration 96 minutes. Directed in 2019 by Gil Kebaïli, written by Gil Kebaïli, Marianne Cramer and Laurent Ballesta.

Who is Laurent Ballesta?

Laurent Ballesta is a scientist, biologist and naturalist. He is also a diver and photographer. He took the first photograph of the Coelacanth, the unknown "fossil" fish that was thought to be extinct. Laurent Ballesta has taken photographs at great depths, at over 100 meters. He has collaborated on Nicolas Hulot's Ushuaia programs and participated in numerous scientific expeditions around the world. This scientist also has a marvelous view of the underwater world, which he knows so well and never tires of. On the contrary, he allows us to see it through his scientific gaze as well as his artistic approach.

Exhibition Raymond Moretti, the man who paints

Exhibition Raymond Moretti, the man who paints

The Alpes-Maritimes department is hosting a major exhibition of the works of Nice-born Raymond Moretti, from April 5 to June 29, 2025, at the Espace culturel départemental de Port Lympia in Nice.
The artist's talent is varied, both in the medium used (paintings, drawings, sculptures) and in the inspiration of the subject and the artistic styles.

You will be amazed at the expressiveness of a simple pencil stroke, a simple curved line on a white sheet of paper, which brings horses to life. Or at his countless lines that overlap, double up and complement each other to create the portrait of the Zealot.

You admire the incredible force of the form and color of the “Cri” or “Marianne”. And what can be said about the dancing and almost sonorous forms of the works devoted to Jazz.
What modernity in the works proposed at the Negresco hotel.

One could feel Raymond Moretti's work, from the caress to the punch.

Raymond Moretti

Raymond Moretti was an artist born in Nice in 1931 and who died in Paris in 2005.
He developed an interest in painting at a very early age, and in 1947, when he was just 16, he painted a Moses Breaking the Tablets of the Law.
In 1959, he used a studio at the Villa Paradiso in Nice to create portraits of Dalida and Martine Carol. Also in Nice, he collaborated with Jean Cocteau on the theme of the Age of Aquarius.
He met Pablo Picasso, who inspired him and supported him in his work.
He painted, but he also designed stamps and posters (for the Nice carnival, Art Expo in New York, Charles Aznavour's last tours) and illustrated books (Rimbaud's Le Bateau ivre, Chemin initiatique sur la Franc-maçonnerie, De Gaulle by André Malraux, etc.).
His work can be found in many areas, throughout France and abroad.

Exhibition Sanyu, the line at work

Exposition Sanyu, la ligne à l'œuvre à Nice

Exhibition Sanyu, la ligne à l’oeuvre = the line at work

The Musée départemental des Arts asiatiques offers a comprehensive overview of the work of Chinese artist Sanyu.
A hundred of his drawings and paintings are on show, alongside works by Picasso, Foujita and Matisse, who follow the same pictorial approach. Visitors thus enter the heart of the fermenting world of modern art.

The museum also offers a number of guided tours of the exhibition. See the official website at the bottom of the page, Practical information.

Sanyu

Sanyu (Zhang Yu or Chang Yu, 1895-1966) is the most French of contemporary Chinese artists. Indeed, he lived in Paris, notably in Montparnasse, where he was in contact with artists such as Matisse. And, apart from a few trips, he never left the Paris region.
He studied art, initially in China. But Sanyu needed creative freedom. He admired Foujita, Picasso and Matisse.
At the same time, he moved on from drawing to engraving and painting. His inspiration came from the female nude, which he treated almost as calligraphy. His landscapes become wild and mysterious.
The artist does not confine himself to representing reality, but seeks out, innovates and reinvents the real. He is not interested in depth or volume.
Sanyu is one of the great masters of traditional Chinese art, which he helped to evolve, unless he is a great master of Western art, to which he brought his modernist vision.

Photos from the Nice Carnival 2025

Here are a few photos from the Nice Carnival 2025, as the floats join the parade route.

On the theme of the King of the Oceans, in conjunction with the upcoming United Nations Conference on the Oceans to be held in Nice, the carnival takes a sometimes acerbic look at our world and our oceans.

The friendly flower battle allows the public to catch flowers thrown by carnival-goers on the fly. Please note: in our photos, this is not the flower battle itself, but the floats on their way to their carnival route.
